The CD8 Test is performed to determine the level of CD8+ T-cells in the bloodstream. These cells are essential for killing virus-infected cells and cancerous cells. In the context of HIV, this test is usually done alongside the CD4 test to understand how well the immune system is functioning. A healthy CD4/CD8 ratio is important for immune balance. Abnormal CD8 counts may also indicate viral infections, autoimmune conditions, or immunodeficiency.
