COOMBS TEST (DIRECT)

Direct Coombs Test (DAT) is a specialized blood test that checks for antibodies bound to red blood cells (RBCs), which may cause the immune system to attack them. It is commonly used to diagnose:

✔ Hemolytic Anemia – Identifies immune-related destruction of RBCs
✔ Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN) – Detects maternal antibodies in a newborn’s blood
✔ Autoimmune Disorders – Diagnoses conditions like lupus and autoimmune hemolytic anemia
✔ Transfusion Reactions – Helps prevent complications after blood transfusions
