Serum Bilrubin

Serum Bilirubin is a diagnostic blood test that measures the level of bilirubin, a yellow pigment formed during the normal breakdown of red blood cells. The liver processes bilirubin so it can be excreted from the body. This test includes Total Bilirubin, Direct (Conjugated) Bilirubin, and Indirect (Unconjugated) Bilirubin levels. Elevated bilirubin may indicate liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, bile duct obstruction, or hemolytic anemia. It is also commonly used to evaluate jaundice in both adults and newborns. Monitoring bilirubin levels helps in diagnosing liver function and overall metabolic health.
